Image Compressor to KB

Up to 10 images · 25 MB per file

Guide updated 6 October 2026

Reduce an image toward a chosen upload limit, such as 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB. Set a target, choose JPG or PNG, and check the actual size and pixel dimensions before downloading. The compressor can trade both quality and resolution for a smaller file.

How to compress an image to a KB limit

  1. Select up to ten images, each no larger than 25 MB. The browser must be able to decode the source format.
  2. Choose JPG for most photographs or PNG when transparency is important.
  3. Enter the maximum size in KB. The initial target is 200 KB, but you can change it.
  4. Select Convert files, then review each result’s preview, size and dimensions.

Keep an original copy. Download the version only after checking that the important details are readable at the size you intend to use.

Compress to 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB

A target is a maximum byte budget, not an exact final file size. An output of 93 KB can be suitable for a 100 KB limit; it does not need to be padded to exactly 100 KB. The tool interprets each KB as 1,024 bytes, while some receiving services use a different convention.

For a strict form limit, aim a little below the stated maximum and confirm that the downloaded file is accepted. The displayed KB figure is rounded, so a file shown near the boundary still deserves a check in the receiving form.

How compression changes quality and dimensions

For JPG, the compressor tests encoder quality levels to find one that fits the target. If it cannot meet the target that way, it progressively reduces width and height and tries again. A very small target can therefore produce a much smaller image.

PNG does not respond to a lossy quality setting like JPG. Reducing its dimensions may be necessary. Compression and resizing are related but different: file size is measured in bytes; dimensions are measured in pixels.

JPG or PNG: which is better for your image?

Image or requirementUseful starting choice
Detailed photo; small upload budgetJPG, followed by a visual check
Transparent icon or cut-outPNG, with a realistic size budget
Small text or a screenshotCompare readability after either output

JPG output uses a white background behind transparent areas. The compressor does not crop the image to a requested aspect ratio or let you set exact width and height.

Example: an application photo under 100 KB

Select the image, choose the format accepted by the form and enter 100. Suppose the result is 86 KB at 640 × 480 pixels: it meets the byte budget, but it may still fail if the form asks for different dimensions. Read both requirements before uploading.

These figures illustrate how to check a result; they are not a promised output for a particular file. Start from the original when trying a new target to avoid repeatedly re-compressing an already reduced copy.

Why a compressed image is blurry or rejected

The target is too small

Try a larger allowed budget. Fine text and complex photos need enough pixels and quality to remain readable.

The source format cannot be decoded

Try the appropriate HEIC converter or AVIF converter, or export a supported still image from its original app.

The result fits KB but fails the form

Check the format, dimensions, aspect ratio and the form’s interpretation of KB. An image compressor cannot satisfy unrelated identity-photo requirements automatically.

Image compression FAQs

Can I set a custom target?

Yes. Enter your maximum size in KB rather than choosing only the default 200.

Will pixel dimensions stay unchanged?

Not necessarily. The tool may resize to reach the target.

Does compression preserve metadata?

Do not rely on this canvas-based output to preserve metadata or animation.

Are images uploaded?

The selected images are processed in the browser by this tool.
