Guide updated 6 October 2026

Convert a HEIC photo to a JPG copy when a form, app or recipient does not accept the original. This tool handles the conversion in the browser and offers JPG or PNG output. It is intended for sharing still photos, rather than preserving every feature of an Apple photo container.

How to convert HEIC photos to JPG online

  1. Choose up to ten files, each no larger than 25 MB.
  2. Select JPG / JPEG, or PNG when that format better suits your destination.
  3. Optionally enter a maximum KB size. Leave it empty when you do not need a size target.
  4. Select Convert files and wait for decoding. Review the output size, dimensions and preview, then download each image.

The HEIC decoder is loaded from a third-party CDN when needed. The selected photo is processed locally by the converter; loading the library is not the same as uploading the photo.

When should you change HEIC to JPG?

Use a JPG copy for a website that explicitly rejects HEIC, a colleague whose software cannot open the file, or a print workflow that requests JPEG. If your photo editor accepts HEIC, there may be no reason to convert your original library.

Changing the filename extension does not change the image encoding. A real conversion decodes the photo and writes a new file in the chosen format. Always keep the original for editing and archiving.

HEIC, JPG and PNG: choose the right output

HEIC is a container associated with HEIF images and can include information beyond a simple picture. JPG is a common still-image format with lossy compression. PNG is useful for a compatible still-image workflow, but it can be considerably larger.

In this tool, HEIC is first decoded to a JPEG image before the final output step. Choosing PNG afterward does not restore detail lost during that decoding path. This is a compatibility utility, not a lossless archival converter.

Quality, metadata and Live Photo limitations

The resulting file is re-encoded, so it is not an identical copy of the source. Expect to check fine details, orientation and color. Do not rely on the converter to preserve EXIF data, location information, HDR characteristics, depth information or editing history.

If the decoder returns multiple images from one container, this version uses the first image. It does not recreate a Live Photo video or give separate downloads for every item in the container.

Example: a photo for a JPG-only upload

Choose the HEIC photo, select JPG and convert. Before attaching the download, open the preview and confirm that the correct photo is shown and it is oriented properly. If the destination also has a size limit, enter its KB target and inspect the output dimensions.

A successful format conversion does not guarantee an upload will be accepted. The receiving service may also require a minimum resolution, a specific aspect ratio or a particular kind of image.

Fix unsupported HEIC files and slow conversion

The decoder fails

Some HEIC variants are unsupported or damaged. Confirm that the original opens on the source device and try exporting a JPEG copy from that device or an editor that supports the file.

The first conversion takes time

The library must load and the image must be decoded in memory. Try one photo at a time, close memory-heavy tabs and use smaller source files if the browser struggles.

The JPG is larger than the HEIC

Different formats compress differently. Use a KB target if size matters; do not expect every JPG conversion to reduce bytes.

HEIC to JPG FAQs

Can I batch-convert photos?

Yes, up to ten selected images, each up to 25 MB. Downloads are separate files.

Does PNG output guarantee lossless HEIC conversion?

No. This decoder path first produces a JPEG image, and PNG cannot restore information removed at that step.

Does it preserve photo metadata?

Metadata preservation is not supported. Keep the original if those details matter.

Why does my file fail even though it ends in .heic?

The extension alone does not ensure a supported or undamaged HEIC image.
